Faiz lifts lid on “nightmare” ordeal in Israel; Stellies could honour Oshwin with Chiefs-scalp

Stellenbosch FC winger Faiz Abrahams has now lifted the lid on his “nightmare” ordeal, which could have possibly ruined his career before it even started.

Abrahams, a former Cape Town Spurs player, played a huge role in helping Amajita win a historic maiden Afcon title in Egypt last year.

The Valhalla Park-born, who featured for Stellies in the Dstv Diski League last season, subsequently landed a loan deal with Hapoel Kafr Saba in the Israeli League with the help of his agent Ernil Kemp.

Needless to say, this move raised eyebrows and got the tongues wagging, given the current political turmoil in the Middle East, where Israel is committing a genocide in Palestine.

To cut to the chase, Abrahams felt isolated, homesick and depressed – despite the fact that he impressed on the playing field with a couple of goals and assists for his new club.

The u.20 SA National player returned to South Africa to his family in Cape Town, which was understandable. However, the manner in which Abrahams went about his business was not befitting that of a pro player, irrespective of whether he is as young as he is.

Abrahams has vowed that it’s all water under the bridge as he has a new lease on life – especially under the watchful eye of his new coach at Stellies’ PSL side, Gavin Hunt. “Firstly, I want to thank everyone like my agency and Stellenbosch FC and everyone who assisted in ensuring I could return back to the club,” Abrahams revealed to No Bones with Jones. “I’ve not made the best choices of late, but I’ve also learnt a lot in this short time.

“It was never my intention for things to turn out the way it did as it was a bit of a nightmare, you know I should also take some responsibility, you know,” he added. No Bones with Jones has been informed that Abrahams has been included in Hunt’s squad for their away clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday (24 February), which is fantastic and hopefully Hunt will unleash Abrahams against the not-so-mighty Amakhosi.

Furthermore, Abrahams and his teammates will have an added motivation as it is also the birthday of the late Oshwin Andries, who would have turned 23 years-old today.
