Spurs’ Victor Tajoodien says money is “buying” titles in Third Division

Silver Spurs’ Victor Tajoodien (pictured) says “big changes” are coming at the club after Spurs retained their Safa Cape Town Third Division status in the most controversial fashion   – and on the last day of the season.

Spurs were staring down the barrel of the gun with the score tied at 4-4  against basement dwellers, Good Hope, heading into the final stages of the game. As ‘luck’ would have it, they were awarded a penalty, which Good Hope deemed dubious and they protested the decision. The protests, however, fell on deaf ears

Good Hope players subsequently walked off the field as they felt something was definitely fishy, as this was the struggling Silver Spurs’ third penalty of the game. Needless to say, this is against the spirit and most importantly, the laws of the game, as their actions were a major transgression with severe consequences.

They ultimately forfeited the match and handed Spurs the much-needed three points that helped them stay in the league.

Tajoodien stated they will strive to ensure this is the first and last time they find themselves in a position where they have to fight for survival.

“But there are serious questions that we need to answer.  We need a coach, but who? Tajoodien said to No Bones with Jones. “To get outside players, which everyone does, costs lots of money. The laaties want to get paid, then there are transport costs.

“In the previous few seasons the teams who went on to win the league were those who had money. There are certain clubs which would never have won the league if it wasn’t for their money.

“They could only be successful because of finance. Just look at the Cape Town Tygerberg teams with their bar facilities, they have sponsors as well. So, they are taking over and it just becomes more and more difficult for us so-called ‘local  teams’ that don’t have that,” Tajoodien concluded.
