Bergvliet High School football coach Theo Hempe says it really means the world to him to see the vision of their former principl Mr (Stephen) Price come to fruition.
Hempe’s comments followed after his under 19 Bergvliet-side qualified for their first final of Kay Motsepe Schools Championship to be held (15:00) at Elsbury Park, Matroosfontein on Friday afternoon.
Hempe indicated that to many on the outside their achievement might look like just another cup final, but for those who, planned, sacrificed and persevered will realise that the fruits of their labour are now being picked.
“I’m thinking now of the previous principal. Mr Price, who had this vision for the school, retired on 31 March (2023),” said Hempe.
“I think, no, I know, he will be so happy to see the long-term plan come to fruition as this was always his long-term plan as this is where he wanted to take football.
“Even for the new principal (Patricia Demas) to put the money where her mouth is and to really invest in the school and especially in football.I think this school is going to become one of the best footballing schools in the next couple of years,” Hempe added.
The former Cape Town Spurs star player, who is back for a second stint at the school, is really stamping his authority.
Along with two former pros in Roger Links and Moegamat Carelse they are raising the footballing standards and creating a platform for the young talent to reach their full potential.
This was also proven when they led the school to success in Rhodes High tournament – walloping Groote Schuur High by 5-0 in the final.
Hempe believes that his side is good enough and possess the necessary quality to “go all the way” in the final in their maiden tournament.
“In my opinion we have technically very good players,” Hempe further said.
“We have the quality as well. We won the Rhodes High tournament about a month or so ago and that was just a stepping stone for us. We will do well as we have all the ability in the team. So, I’m very happy and excited about what lies ahead,” Hempe concluded.
Meanwhile, the Director of Football at the school Brandon Siljeur added that it is all-round just an amazing team effort.
“We really do have a good structure where we support one another, and we really have good support from the Board of Governors. Also Dr. Nasief van der Schyff has also been influential in terms of helping us realise our goals and ambitions and the students have bought into it and now it is bearing fruit,” Siljeur stated.

Wow, wow. There’s nothing that can block the path to success when you have Tgeo Hempe, and others, with the necessary expertise and skills. I’m so impressed with the accolades being bestowed on all those involved and not just 1 individual. May they go forth and do themselves [players and coaching staff] proud. Let that soccer pitch tomorrow be your oyster. Let the games (or is it match?) begin
It is always great to see that dedication and hard work, combined with expertise and skills, coming to fruition. From the report, I deduce that teamwork is exceptional. My hearty congratulations to all and sundry involved, especially Theo and Mogamat. It’s refreshing to observe that accolades are bestowed not on 1 individual, but on the whole team. Bergvliet HS, go out there tomorrow, kick butt, do yourselves proud. Make that soccer field your oyster. Let the games begin (or is it match?). Play the match with passion, flair and a bit of finesse. I wish you the very best.
