Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town FC, better known as Clarewood JPM, is hopeful to pull off the capture of veteran striker Leshvin Stoffels (pictured).
A reliable source close to the club confirmed to No Bones with Jones that Bolle, as Stoffels is known, is currently training with the Second Division club as they are assessing the former Milano United, Cape Town All Stars and Royal Eagles attacker for the upcoming ABC Motsepe Second Division campaign.
Indications are that Clarewood’s prayers could well be answered. Furthermore, they could not have asked for a more experienced and equipped striker in the 35-year-old Stoffels who has been around the block so to speak – if they reach an agreement with him.
“Look, there are obviously a lot of factors to consider,” said the source. “He (Stoffels) has not been playing for over a year and needs to get into shape. Don’t forget he also comes with a high wage expectation, you know. So, there’s a lot of things to try and get it over the line,” the source added.
After much promise last season, the team from Wynberg fell short at the business end of the season with a renowned and reliable goal scorer proving to be their Achilles heel as with most clubs – prompting Dean and his management to enter the market for reinforcements in this position.
“It is just a matter of getting him up and running as there is no doubt that he can do the job,” the source added. “But if you are going to invest in a player like that, you need him to be in good condition because it’s a cost and it’s not cheap. This league has no money. We’re hoping to have good results by the end of next week,” the source concluded.
Should Clarewood seal the deal with Stoffels, he’ll definitely sharpen their attack with his experience along with the usual suspects, such as the veteran captain Mario Booysen, Riyaaz Koopstadt, Robin Baadjies, Dimitri Fredericks and Matthew Tiemie.
Meanwhile, Booysen’s brother David is still nursing a long-term injury and should be back sometime this season, which bodes well for Clarewood’s prospects of winning the league.
