Hanover Park FC goalkeeper Kyle Peters (pictured) has been cut a frustrated figure as his former employer Upington City FC is ducking and diving and spinning all sorts of lies to pay what is owed to him.
Peters’ contract ended in June last season following a 12-month contract with Upington FC in the pro ranks of the First Division. The 32-year-old shot stopper returned back to Cape Town to further his career with Hanover Park in the ABC Motsepe League’s Second Division.
Upon his return to Cape Town Peters was assured that he will receive payment as soon as everyone else gets paid – but nothing was forthcoming.
No Bones with Jones has seen the whatsapp messages between Peters and Upington’s Technical Director in Ruben Cloete where the latter ensures Peters will indeed receive his salary.
It’s almost two months later and according to Peters his patience has run out which prompted him to speak out.
“I also have (financial) responsibilities and they are fully aware of it,” Peters told No Bones with Jones. “You’ve seen the messages on the chat between and he promised me that it will be sorted but it’s dragging on for weeks now. How do I take care of my business if they don’t pay me?” Peters added.
If you thought Peters’ situation was bad then that of his former teammates, Jayden Fransch, Carl lark and Zairon Abrahams are worse as the trio is owed way more than a month’s salary respectively.
Abrahams explained: “They never paid me for the month of May. So, they basically paid May month’s salary at the end of June. I signed for six months but I only got five months. Their payments were also never on time.
“Our contracts stated that payments will be made at the end of each month but it was never on time as we used to get paid on the 7th and then the 15th. The payments were inconsistent. I’ve contacted the technical director Ruben Cloete, but he’s not responding to any of my calls and blue ticking me,” Abrahams concluded.
Our website has reached out to Cloete and the club’s chairman but has not received any feedback regarding the query.
Our website also probed Peters as to why he has not reached out to one of the members of the players union for assistance on which the goalie replied: “I have reached out Brent Carelse but could not get hold of him,” Peters concluded.
