Controversy Clouds Metropolitan LFA Playoff Spot

The Metropolitan LFA in Bonteheuwel finds itself at the centre of a storm after failing to finalize its representative for the upcoming Safa Cape Town Third Division Playoffs.

Of the 33 LFA’s, only the Met and Khayelitsha LFA did not submit their respective winners – and time is running out as the draw for the playoffs is scheduled for next week.

The Met’s President Wayne Weitz (pictured) summed up the situation with a telling remark to No Bones with Jones: “Don’t worry, there is a winner, the log was never signed off!” – a statement that underlines the administrative deadlock gripping the league.

At the heart of the dispute are log leaders Sporting FC and rivals Dynamic Spurs.

Sporting’s campaign is marred after one of their players was sent off last season already, sparking a disciplinary case that remained unresolved for months – why it has taken so long to get to the bottom of it is beyond comprehension.

Needless to say, the fallout has left the league unable to declare an official champion, with the log effectively frozen in limbo.

The implications are significant. Without a signed-off winner, the Metropolitan LFA cannot send a representative to the playoffs — a scenario that threatens both the credibility of the competition and the ambitions of the clubs involved.

From a Sporting FC perspective, the uncertainty undermines their claim to the title despite leading the standings.

Last season Sporting wad in a similar boat; they lost the league due to boardroom squabbles resulting in Goulburn United being crowned champions of the Met.

For Dynamic Spurs, the unresolved case leaves them waiting in the wings, hopeful that the ruling could swing in their favour.

Our website contacted Sporting who opted to waive their right of reply.
