With an impressive 24 goals and 15 assists in just 26 matches across all competitions, it’s easy to understand why Hanover Park FC supporters have nicknamed lanky blonde striker Maurice Theart their very own “Haaland”.
Not only does Theart bear a slight resemblance to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, but his ruthless goalscoring exploits have also earned him the comparison. Ironically, however, Theart’s footballing hero has always been Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
“For me, Ronaldo represents everything a professional footballer should be,” Maurice told No Bones with Jones. “His dedication to taking care of his body, his incredible work ethic, and his never-give-up mentality have allowed him to perform at the highest level for many years.”
The Hanover Park forward once again showed his quality during Sunday’s Coke Cup semi-final against Island Rovers at the Stephen Reagan Sports Complex in Westridge, Mitchells Plain. Theart produced a moment of brilliance, striking a superb volley on the turn that sent the Hanover Park faithful into celebration.
The 25-year-old prolific striker described the goal as one of his most memorable moments of the season.
“This is definitely one of the most special moments of my season,” he said.
Despite his remarkable statistics, Theart remains humble, quick to acknowledge the role played by those around him.
Maurice further explained: “Credit must go to my teammates and coaches because without them I wouldn’t have been able to contribute to the team and club in this way. I’m very grateful and blessed.”
The 24-goal striker also paid tribute to Hanover Park’s loyal supporters.
“I want to thank every single supporter for the time, effort, and passion they invest in supporting our teams, players, and club. Your support means everything to us,” Maurice expressed his appreciation to the fans.
Maurice also reserved special praise for his family, particularly his younger brother, Nuan Theart, who also represents Hanover Park as a goalkeeper.
“Since I was young, my family has supported me through every step of my journey. They’ve always encouraged me to improve as both a player and a person, and I’m forever grateful for their love, advice, and sacrifice.”
He also thanked the Hanover Park leadership for their belief in him.
“A special thank you goes to the Hanover Park management team and Chairman Rieduwaan Anthony for giving me the opportunity to represent such an amazing club.”
Above all, Theart credits his success to his faith.
“I want to thank God for His guidance and blessings. Without Him, none of this would be possible. Everything I achieve is dedicated to Him,” Maurice concluded.
