It was always going to be a matter of time for the experienced defender Chad Roberston (pictured) to return home to his beloved Wynberg St. John’s – especially after the club acquired Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town’s Third Division status a couple of months ago
This comes after No Bones with Jones received news that the 37-year-old former player of Milano United, Steenberg United, and FN Rangers has been roped in and will be unleashed against Premier United at the Youngsfield Military base on Saturday afternoon, also the last match before the league break for the Festive period.
Robertson’s experience and leadership qualities will undoubtedly add value to Gareth Ncaca’s backline – not to mention stability and some bite, as it’s no secret that Robertson rarely backs down from a tackle.
This also brings to fore the prospect of Robertson matching up against Premier’s veteran attacker in Brent “Eier” Adonis – this will definitely make for an interesting battle.
Adonis might just be a bit sharper and might get the better of Robertson as the latter will lack match fitness and might be a bit rusty – or will he?
Antalyaspor JPM has had a satisfactory start to new life in the ‘Graveyard’ league occupying the 10th position with two wins, two draws and two defeats from their six matches thus far – not forgetting that the bulk of these players are from the academy and still very wet behind the ears which is not too shabby!
Needless to say, they also have one of the youngest squads in the league, along with Cape Town Spurs, Cape Town City and Rygersdal FC.
Hence, Robertson’s addition was necessary for some experience. He will have to fire up his young troops as Premier, along with Saxon Rovers, are the only two unbeaten sides in the league thus far, which means that Antalyaspor will have to be on top of their game to foil the visitors from Hanover Park.
