Another Goalgate scandal, part 2, could be on the cards after abnormal scorelines of 21-0 and 20-1 were recorded at Safa Cape Town’s Third Division playoffs, which took place at The Greens in Manenberg and over the weekend.
The first result to raise eyebrows was that of Atlantis Leeds when they annihilated Cape Town Celtics by 20-1. This meant that Young Idols needed to score 21 unanswered goals against Lansur United, which they miraculously managed to do and also sealed their qualification to the knockout rounds.
How none of the Safa CT officials or administrators did not pick up that something was fishy, is mindboggling.
Our website reached out to Safa Cape Town head of referees, Zama Yokwana, to shed some light on the matter.
Meanwhile, the boss of referees in Cape Town added that although these scorelines do raise some eyebrows, they cannot comment or speculate at this stage.
“I’m still waiting on those referees to give me a full report,” Yokwana told No Bones with Jones.
Despite social media buzzing with various versions of the chaos that played out on the field, the region itself has not yet issued a statement regarding the issue.
