There could be a new kid on the block in the ABC Motsepe League next season called Inter City or Lusitania FC as the new partners of this merger are still undecided.
Tyrone McCarthy (pictured), the owner of McCarthy Trimmers, explained to No Bones with Jones: “I have a club called Lusitania and that is the junior LFA side. From City Kings it’s gone to Lusitania because Craig Rosslee is not involved anymore. But Craig Rosslee still has City Kings as he kept the name but I don’t care what he does.
“At the Portuguese club we still have a club called Lusitania as the LFA side and then we have the Motsepe side where I am the main shareholder and Moesien (Rauff) is a partner there. So, yeah he is my partner now and the City Kings name will change but we haven’t decided yet. It’s either going to be Lusitania or Inter City for the new season,” McCarthy added.
But for this to come into effect, the league’s Mother body Safa Western Cape will have to ratify this application done by Inter Africa chairman Moesien Rauff along with his new partners at City Kings.
Meanwhile Safa WC’ s chairman Tankiso Modipa explained: “At the moment, the name is as it reflects from our records. There was a request, but because the competition committee of the province needs to first sit and recommend to the PEC for approval, we shall first wait for them to conclude their procedures.
Then we shall be able to advise based on the reasons provided if it is approved or not.”
Rauff is of course no stranger to the league as he acquired the second division status of the Paarl-based side Battalions last season who were relegated in their debut season.
It’s pretty clear that Rauff is desperate to play in the third tier of amateur football as he’s back for a second bite at the cherry. Furthermore, Inter City has already sent out flyers branded with their new advertised trials for their juniors with coach Theo Hempe at the helm – again.
Our website contacted Rauff but without any luck.
