Motsepe League like playing in Africa, says Crystal Palace’s ‘Hare’

Crystal Palace newly appointed skipper Clayton Daniels (pictured) has likened the ABC Motsepe League with playing in broader Africa.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United defender has joined Palace – who acquired the second division status of Ikapa Sporting – in the third tier of SA football following his illustrious professional career which spanned over two decades.

The 40-year former Riverside Rangers product got his first game under the belt when they beat City Kings in a Nedbank Cup preliminary round at the Edgemead Sportfield on Sunday.

Daniels explained to No Bones with Jones: “I enjoyed it as I was happy to be back on the field and doing what I love. Yes, of course it is a different ball game. It is like playing in Africa again with its artificial pitches and not knowing what to expect.

“You don’t really know how the opposition will play. It is long balls and players fight for everything, you know. But yes, I enjoyed it and want to help the club to achieve its goals,” Daniels concluded.

‘Hare,’ as Daniels is known, came up against his former coach Craig Rosslee on Sunday who is the big boss at Kings, and had the last laugh.

Needless to say the duo have a bit of history together during their time at Ajax Cape Town when Roslee coached the Urban Warriors.

“Yeah! We are good friends and we have come a long way,” Daniels further explained. “He was my coach when I last played at this level for Ajax back in 2003/’03 – so yes, a lot of history between us. We share good memories together winning the Telkom and runners up in the league as well,” Daniels concluded.
