The football public in Cape Town has challenged Safa Cape Town to put its money where its mouth is.
This comes after the region posted a message on social media confirming its stance regarding the scourge of age-cheating.
“Safa Cape Town says no to age cheating,” the message read.
This sparked the conversation on the social platforms emanating a challenge to the Mother Body with a Clinton Liederman replying to their post. “Then prove it and do something about it.”
A well-known football figure and administrator Graham Dirks also chipped in. “Until we deal with it publicly and make an example, this pandemic will continue to tarnish youth football. It’s a CAF problem,” Dirks wrote.
Theo Koopman also added his two cents: “Won’t mention the tournament’s name but saw it first hand how clubs do this just to win – it is so pathetic, then they still lost. I’ve seen this first hand at 3 tournaments this year and I approached organisers twice; they did nothing about it. We keep laughing at our African brothers but we can’t even fix it at grassroots at home,” Koopman added.
Another participant Donlin Jooste had this to say (in caps): “MXM AGE CHEATING HAS BEEN ROAMING SINCE DAY ONE. IT WILL NEVER STOP.”
So, given that the region and the football public are all in agreement, the question of Liederman remains how proactive the local football authorities and broader Africa are to put an end to this plague that does not want to go away!
