Santos tame powerless Rangers by 4-1 at Royal Road

Santos FC made light work of FN Rangers with a 4-1 drubbing at the Royal Road Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.

A brace by the experienced striker Glen Hahn and a goal each from Dante Brown (pictured) and Wanda Feni secured maximum points for the visitors from Thornton.

Santos drew first blood just after the half-hour mark after a mistake by Keenen Dickson, who misjudged his header and allowed Hahn to run through on goal to slot the ball past Rangers’ goalie Jayvin Chisholm to hand the People’s Team a 1-0 lead at halftime.

It was clear that coach Arreshaat Daniels’ halftime team talk didn’t have much effect as Rangers were still huffing and puffing in the second stanza and didn’t offer much on attack, while Santos on the other hand, carried on where they left off in the first half as they tried to cash in with the wind behind their backs via long range shots from outside the penalty area.

It must be said that Santos was all over the powerless Rangers and dominated the midfield battles, winning the individual duels and picking up second balls with great ease, not allowing Rangers any space to launch attacks of their own.

Stanton Weir’s distribution, coupled with his overall performance, was top-notch and he kept Santos on the front foot with pinpoint passes to his wingers. Rangers also found it difficult to deal with Santos’ pacey wingers.

It was just a matter of time before Santos doubled their lead, after Chisholm could only parry Brown’s brilliant free-kick from outside the box and gifted a straight forward tap for Hahn from close range.

Chisholm had a nightmare evening as his positioning in goal was amateurish and awful and contributed to Rangers’ woes. This was again proven when he misjudged a cross from Brown from the right flank, which looped over his head and into the far corner – much to the dismay of Daniels on the touchline.

By then, the heads dropped and the writing was on the wall for Rangers – and it came as no surprise when Santos added a fourth via the 21-year-old Wanda Feni, who put in a real mature performance for a newcomer to the league.

Ironically, Rangers had the last say when they broke their duck deep into stoppage time, but this was nothing more than a consolation.
