Stellenbosch FC CEO, Rob Benadie (pictured), has confirmed that their much-anticipated Betway Premier League clash against the high-flying log leaders, Orlando Pirates, on 5 May will be played at the Athlone Stadium.
“That’s confirmed and we urge everyone to purchase their tickets as soon as they become available to avoid disappointment,” Benadie told No Bones with Jones.
Coach Gavin Hunt and his Stellies troops will also be eager to build on their previous performance. a 2-1 win against Chippa United, which was also played at the Athlone Stadium.
Unsurprisingly, Hunt has shown his mettle and why he is so highly rated with a solid and unbeaten start with Stellies following four wins and four draws from eight matches since he took over the mantle from his predecessor Steve Barker.
The team from the Cape Winelands face a busy schedule where they will have to play four games in a space of 19 days. This will surely test the depth of Hunt’s squad but rest assured, the wily old fox should have his basis covered.
Hunty, as he is affectionately know, will first have to navigate his way past this tricky period, where they face Richards Bay (7 April), Sekhukhune United (17 April) and Polokwane United (26 April) before the Buccaneers visit the home of football in Cape Town early in May.
Stellenbosch’s fixture against the defending champs, Mamelodi Sundowns, initially scheduled for 11 April has now been moved to 22 April due to the latter’s CAF commitments.
Stellies, who currently sit in the ninth position, are 28 points off Pirates, who have been a revelation under the tutelage of their new Moroccan-born tactician, Abdeslam Ouaddou.
Ouaddou replaced Jose Riveiro last year in June and has managed to take the Soweto giants to new heights in the league with an exciting brand of football.
