Safa Cape Town gears up for its first meeting of 2025 which will take place at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday (22 January 2025) to strategize for the rest of the season ahead.
For once, one does not expect this meeting to be dictated by the Wayne Weitz scandal which has been hanging over the region like a dark cloud, as this matter has already been set aside for Congress in February next month.
Let’s not forget that a motion to get rid of Weitz is currently in front of the ‘jury’ and it looks like a certainty that the Sea Point Swifts stalwart’s head will roll as dirty politics in its purest and finest form are at play and this could make the outcome for Weitz an unfavourable one.
Bear in mind that at one stage a motion to reinstate Weitz was set to be put into action but was shot off without any contest – so hellbent are some of the delegates within the region to get rid of the Metropolitan president.
Therefore, one just cannot see how justice will prevail for Weitz. Look at the pertinent fact that there is no evidence of any transgression with regards to theft – yes, protocol issues which require remedial actions to be taken – yet Weitz still finds himself with his head on the chopping block.
Ironically, many of Weitz’s Safa comrades believe in his innocence and do not agree with the manner in which this matter is being dealt with, yet they remain silent which in itself is an indictment.
On the other hand, Weitz has to date been mute and distanced himself from the media regarding his treatment from Cape Town Football’s Mother body.
One could assume that Weitz’s silence is a matter of principle and his way of keeping the moral high, but perhaps it could also be a ploy to retaliate which could lead to another can of worms possibly being opened? Could it be that his gloves are coming off?
What if Weitz, who has been in the trenches himself and knows how the enemy thinks and operates, has the element of surprise up his sleeve?
That is also of course if he will be given an opportunity to state his side which up until now was never heard? If he does, will it hold-up?
