Hanover Park FC suspends member for 90 days for assault on Rangers-skipper

Hanover Park FC chairman Rieduwaan Anthony has laid down the law with the suspension of one of its members following the violence which broke out after their ABC Motsepe League defeat against FN Rangers at the Downberg Road Sports Field in Hanover Park two weeks ago.

“We suspended the member for 90 days,” Anthony confirmed to No Bones with Jones. “During this period he cannot be close to the grounds or facility. The member (whose name is known to our website) is deeply saddened and admitted that it is the first time in history… he felt he was provoked and he just exploded in the moment and that is another part of the story,” said Anthony.

After the final whistle between the fiercely contested clash between these rivals, some of the home fans stormed the field where there was argy bargy happening amongst the two teams. It was at this time that the perpetrator made his way to Chad Robertson and took matters upon himself by attacking the Rangers stand-in captain.

“He heard that two of the Rangers players, one being their captain (Chad Robertson), went over to our supporters and taunted them and that sparked it all, you know. So, those two are not angels, you know which created this thing.

“But in essence we are saying wrong, wrong, wrong! You cannot do that. It must never happen. I must add that he was remorseful as his family is also closely linked to the club as well. So, we have addressed that and he admitted that was no reason for his actions.

“Regarding the supporter we can’t get hold of him but we are also addressing a letter to him as an outsider but we haven’t done that yet and the Metro (cops) and SAPS (South African Police Service) will be copied in that. If he prevails with the swearing and all of that… but this is a different scenario as he is not registered with our club and we don’t have jurisdiction over him,” Anthony concluded.
