Safa Cape Town president Bennett Bailey emphasized that he is more than confident in the ability of the new (acting) General Secretary, Reyaad Joseph (pictured).
The region confirmed Joseph’s appointment two weeks ago after it had operated without a General Secretary for close to two years following the passing of Elton Lotriet.
The circular further indicated that a vacancy will be declared and filled as per the Safa Cape Town Statutes by their next meeting.
Bailey admitted that he was rather impressed by Joseph’s acumen during the engagement with the stakeholders.
“I don’t think it is necessary for me to go with him to meetings anymore,” Bailey stated to No Bones with Jones. “The way he engaged was as if he was prescribed by Bennett Bailey. In my opinion, he matured and we all should acknowledge that.
“What I also like is the fact that he goes all out to find ways to make life easy for everyone out there and for us. I mean we always had two individuals that ran the Third Division and we still had problems. This guy runs it alone and there are no problems.
Meanwhile, the Cape Town soccer boss also confirmed that the Mother body will take charge of the Engen Knockout Challenge which has been a contentious topic of late.
This prestigious and popular national competition was run by clubs in the past, but due to last year’s controversy – when the sponsor (Engen) was at loggerheads with the South African Football Association – it forced the powers that be to relook the hosting criteria.
“We will run it as we do with the Coke Cup and allow everyone a fair chance to have an opportunity to host the tournament,” Bailey concluded.
The region released the first round fixtures of the Engen qualifiers on Wednesday which will be played over the weekend (23 and 24 March) at the Strandfontein Sport Complex in Mitchells Plain.
