While Salt River Blackpool’s Chairman Iqbal Kasker (pictured) was transparent enough to acknowledge that the ugly scenes which broke out last weekend during an under-8 game between Blackpool and Blue Bells at the Cape District LFA is “unacceptable” and should never ever happen again, his counterpart from Blue Bells – Reyaad Cloete – chose the adverse route.
It was a “hair-pulling and fist swinging affair” after tensions rose amongst rival parents – especially moms – while others looked on in astonishment. The saddest part of all is that this happened at an under 8 match.
It is clear that for some parents and clubs as well – the ‘win at all cost factor’ is a very important element in their make-up.
Even though there is a history of bad blood between these clubs, there is no way that this type of action can be condoned.
Be that as it may, Kasker said he strongly condemned the incident between the two (female) parents adding that parents must not allow their emotions to get the better of them.
“They are adults and must take responsibility,” Kasker told No Bones with Jones. “Both clubs already sent out strong messages to its members,” Kasker added. He also added that the parents involved are not members of the club.
Cloete meanwhile could not be reached following numerous attempts by our website to get his reaction on the scandalous scenes at the junior match.
No Bones with Jones did however manage to get a copy of the whatsapp messages Cloete sent out to the parents in their group after the incident.
The text reads as follows:
Dear Bluebells AFC Parents and Players,
“We are writing to address the unfortunate and deeply concerning incident that took place during one of our Under-8 matches. As many of you are aware, violence erupted between parents and supporters of the opposing teams at the field. This behavior is both shocking and unacceptable.
“Let us be absolutely clear: Bluebells AFC does not condone any form of violence or abuse – whether verbal or physical – towards anyone, especially in front of our children. Incidents like this not only have a negative impact on the young players who are there to enjoy and learn from the game, but also tarnish the reputation of our club. As an organization, we strive to provide a safe, nurturing, and friendly environment where our children can develop not only their talents and skills but, more importantly, their love for this beautiful sport.
“We are extremely saddened and disappointed by the events that transpired. On behalf of Bluebells AFC, We would like to extend a heartfelt apology to all our parents and players who were present that day. We never intend, nor want, to place our children in a situation where they feel unsafe or distressed. Our priority is always their well-being, both on and off the field.
“Please rest assured that an internal inquiry has been conducted, and we are carefully reviewing all the facts. We are committed to taking appropriate action to ensure that such an incident never happens again. In due time, we will address all parents involved and provide clarity on the steps being taken to prevent future occurrences.
“Thank you for your understanding, and for continuing to support our efforts to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere at Bluebells AFC. Together, we can ensure that our children enjoy the game they love in the best possible environment,” the text concluded.
It will be interesting to see what action will be taken by both clubs – or if the matter will just be swept under the William Herbert turf. The approach taken by Cape District LFA will also be closely monitored.
