The late president of the Athlone LFA Kevin Fransman (pictured) was a fair and just individual and therefore he must be honoured in a proper footballing manner.
These are the words of Derek Wyatt, senior exco member of the Athlone LFA ahead of the third annual Kevin Fransman tournament.
“Mr Fransman was one of those unselfish leaders who led from the proverbial front, you know,” Wyatt pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “He would always put the needs and concerns of the LFA and the administration ahead of his own and he was a real gentleman.”
This two-day event kicks off on Saturday (20 April) and finishes Sunday at the Turfhall Sports Ground.
Day one will see the juniors in action while the B-section of the seniors will also commence at 16:00 while the seniors of the other section will be in action on Sunday (21 April).
Fransman passed on in 2021 during the Covid period and according to Wyatt it was of paramount importance that the LFA needed to keep his legacy alive.
“The new generation must know of the history and the stalwarts who paved the way and what better than a soccer tournament at our LFA,” Wyatt further added. “This way the young players will be made aware and so that they know the significance of this tournament,” Wyatt added.
The tournament also signifies the commencement of Athlone’s LFA season.
