Judging by the business done by Jamestown United, one can deduce that the recently crowned Athlone LFA champion is leaving no stone unturned as they gear up for Safa Cape Town’s Third Division promotion playoffs.
No Bones with Jones has learnt that this spectacle will in all likelihood again be hosted at Cape District Football Association’s base at William Herbert -although nothing is confirmed yet.
Needless to say, this is the best-suited venue to host the playoffs as it lends itself to such a spectacle.
Jamestown, who’ll be making their debut at the playoffs this season, have made sure that they will not get caught with their pants down hence they have done some serious shopping lately – the well-known names tell a story indeed.
Our website can confirm that the club, under the watchful eye of coach Geron Barnes and his assistant Chad Morkel, along with the manager, Brandon Reynolds, popularly known as “Benny Billionaire” has recruited the likes of former Ajax Cape Town and Bafana Bafana u23 defender, Jermaine Bowers (captain), former Ajax Cape Town and Santos FC striker, Zaakir Williams, former Highlands Park FC defender, Ricardo Williams, as well as former Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City FC defender, Jared Van der Burg.
“Oh let’s not forget our three musketeers from the former ASD Football Academy, Valentino Fredericks, Lenneth Bowers and the shot stopper Aviwe “Senzo” Mdzwangu, as well as Adenaan ‘Nani’ Brown, the skilful young man formerly from Ajax Cape Town and Cape Umoya,” Morkel explained to No Bones with Jones.
“We are firm believers” in the old adage of “failure to prepare, is preparing to fail” hence our effective planning for this season was vital and set us apart from the other teams in our LFA which ultimately led to our success.
“Every member of our team was assigned a particular task on this journey and everyone stuck to their guns and pulled their weight right from the beginning,” Morkel added.
Being crowned league champions has already exceeded the expectations of the club’s young and ambitious technical team as they initially had a three-year plan.
“We had to overcome many obstacles as a team, such as not having a training facility with lights, but made it work by making use of the Vangate Mall Five-a-side court, where our training sessions were limited to one hour per week, but that did not deter us as we went through the first round of the league – not only unbeaten, but without having conceded a single goal. I mean if that is not testament of a team that is determined to do whatever it takes and go all the way, then I don’t know what is,” Morkel concluded.
