Bradley August (pictured) is back at Crystal Palace to take charge of their new ABC Motsepe League side for the 2024/’25 season.
August confirmed the news to our website adding that they are excited and hoping it will attract more people to Manenberg who now has two sides in the Hollywoodbets Third Division and the Second Division.
According to August, who was roped in by the Cape Town Tygerberg LFA club Garlandale FC a couple of months ago, he is well aware that they will have to start from a ”clean slate” as Palace’s purchase did not include the players.
”But we have a big pool of players already with the Third Division side that we can choose from,” August told No Bones with Jones. ”We are starting next week from scratch with trails as we’d like to give everyone a fair chance, you know.
”This is another platform for the talent of Manenberg to shine so they must make full use of this opportunity. We also want to get the crowds back in Manenberg and just imagine both teams playing on the same day ? What a spectacle for Manenberg would it not be?” August added.
Meanwhile Ikapa Sporting FC owner Shaun Pietersen confirmed that Palace has paid cash – the ‘asking’ price – for the club’s ABC Motsepe League Second Division status.
This comes shortly after Pietersen, along with his business associates, acquired a 50% stake in the Motsepe Foundation Champions First Division outfit in Pretoria Callies.
Our website has been informed that Palace paid R400 000 plus VAT for the Motsepe status of the longest-serving club in the league. Palace claimed they had to fork out R500 000.
”They are right as they don’t owe me a cent and that is 100% correct,” was Pietersen’s brief reply No Bones with Jones.
The timing of these developments could also not have been any more perfect as The Greens Complex is currently undergoing a R4-million upgrade in September, which could take football and the community of Manenberg LFA into a whole new trajectory!
