Safa Cape Town’s Third Division is Saxon Rovers’ to lose!
This is the general sentiment of everyone associated with the so-called “Graveyard League’ for the mere fact that Saxons are just a cut above the rest and not showing any signs of slowing down.
But please don’t tell this to their head coach, Robbie Pretorius (pictured), who doesn’t seem to be listening and is blocking the noise.
“We only focus on one game at a time,” Pretorious pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “No one is guaranteed this title until it’s over. So, there’s still lots to play for and we focus only on what is in front of us and soldier on,” he added.
This despite the fact that Saxons (54 points) enjoys a nine-point lead over its nearest rivals, Cape Town City (46).
Furthermore, they have only lost one game from their 21 thus far, which includes three draws. I mean, does this not underline the credentials of a champion team?
And in their debut season at that – a feat previously achieved by both Diadora FC and Vasco da Gama in the recent past.
Whether their rivals are genuine in their praises or just trying to unsettle and pile on pressure with mind games, Pretorious is not really bothered and says he blocks out all the noise.
According to Pretorius, the pressure from outside is a factor that they have to deal with one way or the other.
“To be honest, the pressure is always there and I think we kind of relish that,” Pretorious stated to No Bones with Jones. ” When it wasn’t there, we dropped five points in one week. And that’s how quick you can drop… due to double headers, you know.”
“So, we do feel the pressure, but our technical team is well-equipped to manage these situations. And the players we are blessed with are not only experienced, but they have all bought into the project and understand what it is all about which obviously makes things so much easier,” he concluded.
