After three games with nothing to show, Goal50 United head coach Daryn Crowie (pictured) admitted it was a big relief to break their duck and finally get some points on the board in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division.
Crowie’s troops bagged maximum points after an impressive 3-1 away victory over Goodhope FC, thanks to goals from Aviwe Makhiva, Jason Busch and Tyreese Thomas, which also lifted them from the bottom of the table.
Crowie explained to No Bones with Jones: “I think this win was important for us for the mere fact that the hard work the boys had been putting in the preseason finally paid off, you know.
“It’s been a tough few games to start with, as results haven’t really gone our way, initially – and that is not to say that we’ve been performing badly, you know.
“We’ve been very unlucky at times, as we’ve created chances up front but have not scored them. Here and there, the decisions didn’t go in our favour as well. But the technical team and players are fully aware this is a marathon of 34 games and we’re taking each game as it comes.
“But look, all in all, it’s a nice confidence booster to finally get a win under our belt, especially for the players. So, hopefully we can build on this,” Crowie added.
Crowie, assisted by Rashiek Voterson, was given the task of transforming the club into a competitive unit – but the reality is that this duo has been working on the fitness and conditioning of the players for the previous three to four seasons.
Crowie, who recently completed his Caf C-Licence, is also a qualified conditioning coach, which means he’ll play a dual role this season.
“I’ve worked with various coaches in previous seasons, but this season the chairman has installed confidence in us, hence we are now in charge of taking the team to the next level.
“Look, when Mario (Van Niekerk) asked if we are willing to assist in the coaching department, I didn’t hesitate or think twice to take up his offer.
” I’ve worked with many senior experienced coaches in previous seasons, some currently at neighbouring clubs who are always available to offer assistance and act as mentors,” Crowie added.
With three games to go before the Festive break, Crowie and Voterson expect their troops to build on this result and improve their log position, which is currently 16th out of 18 teams.
“It’s still early days and one tends not to be too fixated on the log, but the idea is for the players to improve and develop week after week, you know. Also, the season is very long, so we’ll just have to take it game by game,” Crowie concluded.
