Silver Spurs FC manager Abdul “Doeltjies” Tajoodien (pictured) conceded that perhaps they are not cut for success in the Hollywoodbets Third Division following a barren spell of nearly 20 years in this league.
Tajoodien made this bold revelation after he was probed on a rumour that the club’s former Third Division coach Keith America, was to be reinstated.
On this (Abdul) Tajoodien vehemently stated: “No, the status quo remains, with Victor (Tajoodien) as the interim coach of the Third Division team.”
“While Keith has taken up a position to be in the folds of Silver Spurs still. Yesterday he (America) spent the day with us in Hanover Park doing Bayhill preparation. He is still a member of Silver Spurs and is willing to work wherever the club deploys him,” Doeltjies told No Bones with Jones.
It must be said that Spurs has been guilty of some yo-yo performances of the previous couple of seasons in the Third Division, dubbed the Graveyard League for its cutthroat nature.
Needless to say, the Silvertown-based club has huffed and puffed and has been rather slow out of the starting blocks so far this season, but have clawed their way to the middle of the log heading into the festive break with two wins from eight matches thus far and sitting in the 12th position. There is certainly work to be done for Victor when he returns in the new year.
Meanwhile, his brother Abdul added the club had a paradigm shift in recent seasons and is keen on giving young talent the platform and exporting them to (pro) clubs for better opportunities.
The proof is certainly in the pudding with players like Ethan Felix who was snapped up by Stellenbosch while his twin-brother, Zeke, is currently on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns. Then there are also others like Tristan Brandt, Toughier Claasen and Jaydon Zeeman (Zizwe United) which are scattered within the pro and semi-pro ranks in the Western Cape.
According to Doeltjies Silver Spurs have gotten to accept that this could well be their destiny.
”Yes, it is always in our minds to win a league and be promoted and give our own shot to the ABC (Motsepe League), but then again we must be realistic and ask: ‘Is the club ready financially?’ Because many clubs go there and find themselves being a yo-yo team going up and down.
“Financially it takes a massive toll. You can check who went up and who came down and who sold immediately. Even the ones that are there are hanging on by the skin of their teeth. Hypothetically, could Silver Spurs afford to be in the stream that Hanover Park FC is in? Going thrice to Beaufort at a cost of R30 000 per trip?” Tajoodien concluded.
