Ex-Bafana star wish to retain experienced troops for Spurs’ new venture in Second Division.

Let’s face it, Cape Town Spurs need all the help they can get  – to not only restore their credibility but also to get them back into the pro ranks as soon as possible!.

Hence, the Spurs head coach Nasief Morris has one wish for now – that is for seasoned campaigners like Nazeer Allie, Therlo Moosa, Lincoln Vyver and others to remain at the club.

Then, there is also the option of new trialists like the experienced duo of Shamiel Assur and Nuzhas Pail that will definitely strengthen Spurs.

Whether Morris’ wish will be granted remains to be seen. “I don’t know what the story with them is at the moment, ” Morris told No Bones with Jones. “They will have to negotiate with the club and see what’s happening. But I won’t lie, I’d like to have them in my squad. I know the league and I know that we’ll need players like them,” Morris added.

Spurs will regroup on Thursday after being granted a couple of days off from their pre-season, which has been ongoing for the previous six weeks. A lot also rests on what is going to happen regarding contracts for new and existing players.

Bear in mind the 44-year-old Morris is no stranger to the Second Division, with stints at clubs like Steenberg United. Needless to say many of the clubs are still scrambling to assemble their respective teams so that they can be ready for action when the league season kicks off in October.

Morris and his assistant Tyren Arendse, two former Bafana Bafana and Santos players, have now been tasked to steer Spurs back to the pro ranks after they were relegated from the First Division last season – but this will be easier said than done.

“No one in this league can say they are ready because it’s not like the First Division, where it is more structured and the communication channels are open. There are two streams and you first need to get through your stream on your own and then you go to a playoff final before you actually progress to the provincial playoffs.

“So, whoever thinks they are ready, they must come tell me again, but also, if you prepare your players properly and the players do the job you expect from them, then it’s supposed to run smoother,” Morris concluded.
