Eyes never lies… Daryn sees the fire and focus in his Goal50-troops ahead of Pirates-derby as their relegation battle continues

Goal50 United coach Daryn Crowie knows all too well that derbies are there for the taking as the “form goes out by the window” as he pointed out.

Furthermore, Crowie reckons his troops are up for the challenge in their double header weekend where they face their high-flying Heidveld neighbours Young Pirates FC on Friday evening followed by an away clash to Wanderers FC in Langa on Sunday.

Now, talk is cheap and judging by the 26-point difference between Goal50 who are currently second last on the log and fourth-placed Pirates, the former has no right to be victorious and their coach is probably just saying things a coach, in his predicament, should say.

But Crowie is of the opinion that Roger Fortune’s Pirates could be in for a surprise as they are prepared to throw everything including the proverbial kitchen sink at their rivals as they desperately need to start picking up points.

Needless to say, Goal50 gave Pirates a run for their money but was narrowly beaten 1-0 during a first round clash.

The 39-year-old coach added that he’s been observing a lot of “body language and energy” recently and sees something different in their eyes leading up to the derby.

“Honestly speaking, …all I see is determination, focus and fire in their eyes,” he pointed out to No Bones with Jones.  “The team looks motivated and ready to put up a fight,” he added.

With the relegation battle so congested, Crowie is aware that every point matters and nothing can be taken for granted. There is also the possibility that five teams could be relegated from Safa Cape Town’s Third Division campaign which is why Crowie still believes in the impossible.

“It ain’t over until the fat lady sings and we have to keep on fighting until the very end as things are so tight at the bottom,” Crowie concluded.

Goal50’s will draw inspiration from the fact that a few of Pirates’ senior players like Ameen Awaldien, Marco Wilschutt, Waleed Krotz and goalkeeper Jandre Hendricks are out injured and perhaps they could use to this advantage.
