“Fit, sharp and ready” Robbie back at Vasco to sharpen attack

Vasco da Gama head coach Andrew Pequeno says he is hoping that his new striker Robbie Fredericks will become an “integral part” of his squad for the rest of the Hollywoodbets Third Division campaign.

Pequeno’s comments come after No Bones with Jones was informed that the 23-year-old attacker was lured from Santos to return to Vasco and to provide more firepower on attack.

Our website also understands that the deal is not over the line yet despite Santos’ chairman Goolam Allie who has issued the clearance to release Fredericks.

It is also no secret that the second-placed Vasco has been rather short of goals scoring only 15 from their 10 games. Teams who occupy positions lower than Vasco, like Saxons (19 goals), Crystal Palace (21), Matroosfontein FC (16) and Silver Spurs (22), have all outscored the Parow Park side thus far.

In Vasco’s defence, they still have a superior goal difference over these teams as they have conceded fewer goals which is an indication that Vasco’s defence is proving a tough nut to crack.
Pequeno knows all too well that goals win games hence he had to strengthen his attack for the remaining 24 matches.

“He is coming from Santos, very fit, sharp and ready,” Pequeno told No Bones with Jones.  “He was with us in the LFA season so it is not like he doesn’t know how we play and who we are, the players and everything. So he wanted to come back home and Mr Allie obliged by giving his clearance. Now I hope he can play an integral part,” Pequeno added.

Fredericks will however not be available for their fixture against Wanderers FC on Friday (19 January) but should be ready for his ‘debut’ against Trinitarians on Monday.
