Silver Spurs head coach Victor Tajoodien was unapologetic when he proclaimed that he is the “full package”…. Looks, brains and talent.
Tajoodien also believes that he possesses a level of confidence and bravado that has made him a well-respected figure in the amateur football circles.
Hence, it came as no surprise when Tajoodien exuded his boldness by adding that he’s gunning for maximum points against the unbeaten Third Division side Premier United, whom they face on Saturday (17:00) at the Downberg Road Sport Complex.
Premier is playing second fiddle to the log leader and only other unbeaten side in Saxon Rovers (both 13 points) due to an inferior goal difference, while Spurs are languishing in the bottom-half of the table on four points.
“I’m not settling for a draw at all,” Tajoodien pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “I’m more prepared to lose 0-6 than to be conservative or to play it safe. The gap between us and the pacesetters is too big.
“Therefore, we are going there with intent and we are going for maximum points. Look, it won’t be easy as we are playing a top, top team and their unbeaten record is proof thereof. But the ball is round and it’s eleven versus eleven,” he added.
Needless to say, there is a rich history between these two sides, and this fixture always delivers the goods. Furthermore, Spurs have also recalled some of their experienced campaigners, like Nizaam Miller and Areshaad du Plooy, who were previously on the books of Premier – and this should spice up matters even further and one expects that no love will be lost.
Spurs, who are unbeaten in the previous two matches following a 2-1 victory against Wanderers FC and followed it up with a 0-0 draw against Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town last week, expect to extend their unbeaten run and to condemn Shamiel Anthony’s Premier outfit to a first defeat of the season.
The Silvertown-based club faces Jomo’s Power in their last match at the Hickory Road Astroturf venue before the league breaks for the Festive season – and Tajoodien is confident they can end the year on a high and bag the full complement of points. However, this could be easier said than done!
