The day of reckoning regarding the ‘Goalgate’ scandal has arrived – or has it?
As per Safa Cape Town’s announcement two weeks ago, a decision could be made on 15 November to finalize the matter pertaining to the alleged corruption at the Third Division playoffs two weeks ago at the William Herbert Sports Complex.
Five clubs – West Coast United, Electric City, Diadora FC, Rebels FC and Two for Joy – were subsequently summoned to please explain what actually transpired after some freakish score lines of 35-1 and 22-0 were recorded during the final group (H) matches.
Two for Joy is the only party that did not pitch up for questioning during the investigation regarding their alleged involvement in the scandal.
The head of the investigation, Safa CT’s deputy president Andrew Bothman, also roped in a high-profile legal eagle in Sean Lea to get to the bottom of the story and to make recommendations on the way forward.
Bothman also indicated that should they not have completed their investigation by the due date, then they would request an extension due to the sensitivity and complexity of the case.
It has now come to light that there seem to be twists and turns that will prolong the highly anticipated outcome following new developments in the case.
No Bones with Jones is reliably informed that a possible re-enquiry will take place and the matter will definitely not be resolved by the proposed date.
“The whole thing is a mess and it is much bigger than we initially thought,” a source told our website.
Safa CT is to hold a Regional Executive Committe meeting on Wednesday evening (15 November) where the recommendation by Lea and the way forward will be hotly debated.
Many believe that the playoffs should never have been allowed to continue until the investigation was done.
