Actions are judged by intentions – not words.
Therefore it begs the question: how serious is Safa Cape Town really about getting to the bottom of the ‘Goalgate’ scandal which rocked football in the Mother City?
This is a typical case of justice, not only being served but for the public to see that justice is being served to rid the beautiful game – where coaches, administrators and players make lots of sacrifices – of any form of corruption and irregularity.
Two weeks ago the region informed the local football fraternity that it was hell-bent on finding answers after news of the scandal surfaced. A well-renowned legal expert Sean Lea was brought in to investigate the matter.
The Mother Body also sent out an official communication at the beginning of November stating that they should have an answer for the public by 15 November 2023.
No Bones with Jones has been informed that more time – seven days starting from the initial due date – will be needed which indicates that no decision has yet been reached.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this as this is a very sensitive and complex matter after all. The question that arises, however, is whether the organisation should not have communicated the next step of the investigation to the football fraternity. As was said earlier, the nature of this case warrants that the public should see that justice is indeed being done.
There are already many questions being asked, especially since the playoffs have been completed.
There have been murmurs about no tangible evidence or proof of monies being exchanged or any paper trail which makes it difficult to pinpoint who the perpetrators are following the Regional Executive Meeting held on Wednesday evening.
Once again no problem with this, what will be a massive injustice to football is if this gets swept under the carpet and none of the parties involved gets held accountable.
Here is a very good opportunity for Safa CT to show how serious it is about keeping corruption out of the local game. This football body just cannot allow this opportunity to pass without showing that it is an organisation that should be taken seriously when it comes to such pertinent matters.
