Hanover Park boss questions Cape Tygerberg rival’s integrity and Fair Play

Hanover Park FC Chairman Riedewaan Anthony has questioned the integrity and fair play of fellow Cape Town Tygerberg LFA rivals Rygersdal FC.

Anthony reached out to No Bones with Jones saying he felt betrayed when he discovered one of his clubs’ key players, Shamiel ‘Summer’ Assure (pictured), in the colours of Rygersdal FC at the Sport Pesa Cup hosted by Edgemead Football Club in conjunction with Cape Town City FC over the weekend.

Vasco eventually won the tournament edging out Durbanville FC 1-0 at the inaugural event which was dubbed highly controversial for more reasons than one.

Anthony says this is clearly a case of double standards and feels that if the shoe was on the other foot, all hell would have broken loose – therefore he is forced to take the necessary action and is assessing his options.

Anthony explained to No Bones with Jones: “On Friday night we took him off as we were already 7-0 ahead at halftime – and to rest him, you know. And then on Saturday we see a picture of him playing for Rygersdal. The question I have is: where is the loyalty or professionalism of Rygersdal knowing that the player belongs to Hanover Park FC?”

Meanwhile, The Brasse Vannie Park, as Hanover Park are known, are firm favourites to win Stream B of the ABC Motsepe League’s Second Division and have a healthy lead in their stream. They play the second-placed Oriented Birds in their next match.

Anthony said he thought he’d seen it all during his decades of involvement in football.

“Why did they use him in their squad? What was the reason or motive? They are well aware of our situation in the league. Look, you can punish the player, but what about the club? Is it jealousy? Here I blame the people in charge of the club, but they disregard what we’ve built up in football over the years,” Anthony concluded.
