Rumour has it that there is a possible third Local Football Association (LFA) on the horizon in Mitchells Plain.
Although no one could confirm or deny this, rumours have been floating around on social media for the past two weeks. It will however come as a massive surprise if such a move should gain the support of the regional controlling body, Safa Cape Town.
The immediate question that has to be asked is: Does Mitchells Plain need another controlling body for amateur football in the area?
It would also be interesting to know where such a body will be based and which clubs will be leaving the current two LFA’s affiliated with Safa Cape Town.
Football in the area is currently split between the Westridge-based LFA MItchells Plain (MPLFA) and the Mitchells Plain Football Board (MPFD) based at the Portland fields.
The MPFD is also an organisation which broke away from MPLFA a few years ago and is one of the struggling LFA’s in Cape Town.
Mitchells Plain has over the years been home to some of the best amateur soccer clubs in the Western Cape, with names such as Liverpool-Portland, Juventus, Parkhurst Ambassadors, Leeds Lentegeur and others. Some of the countries top players also took their first soccer steps in Mitchells Plain.
However, division and constant bickering have hindered this region from progress and the emergence of a strong professional club capable of holding its own in the top leagues of South African Football.
The MPLFA is currently headed by Gilbert Kruger and is the powerhouse of amateur football in the area with Quinton Abrahams the leader of MPFD.
It is however interesting to note that on the MPFD Website, they still have Kruger listed as their president. Interesting times – and more confusion seems to be on the horizon in Mitchells Plain football.

Thank you!
I hope SAFA provide leadership and unite the people of Mitchells Plain instead of dividing us further, Mitchell’s plain is ready to have it’s own PSL team but it needs unity and a common purpose, and that is to create the platform and use football as the foundation to build a better society our children are crying out for help. Lose your ego’s it is detrimental to society.
Could not agree with you more, sir! This should have happened a while back with all the talent they have produced over the years.
