Former Bafana Bafana defender David Kannemeyer (pictured) is rather surprised at recent rumours linking him with the new Hollywoodbets Third Division club YMO St. Lukes.
News reaching No Bones with Jones has it that Kannemeyer, who played for clubs like the Glamour Boys Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns during an illustrious and coveted career, was apparently earmarked as the head coach of the newbies with former Silver Spurs and Premier United assistant coach Franklyn Davies as his assistant.
This was probably sparked after Kannemeyer was spotted at one of the newcomer’s pre-season sessions.
The 47-year-old Ottery-born jokingly denied that he was approached for the head coach position.
“What I can confirm is that no one approached me for a job,” Dawie, as Kanneyerer is known, confirmed to our website.“I was asked to make a turn one Sunday at one of their trials. Leon Rossouw, an acquaintance, personally told me that the coach is apparently someone from the club.
“But not me, I was also there (at the trials) in my personal capacity to do a bit of scouting for my set-up, you know. But honestly nothing about a head coach job,” said Kannemeyer who had coaching jobs with clubs like the now defunct Ajax Cape Town, as well as with The Magic.
It is alleged that YMO’S management is apparently running around frantically behind the scenes to get their ducks in a row and to make sure they’ll put in a decent and competitive debut performance – but this will be easier said than done.
Perhaps Kannemeyer, who holds a Caf B-license and has loads of experience as both player and coach, could potentially be the perfect candidate given that he is available and has shown what he is all about on the coaching front.
This could bode well for the Third Division newcomer as Kannemeyer is not only familiar with the local landscape but has the ability to attract talent to the club.
