Logday new interim boss of Futsal in Cape Town after President Fortune calls it quits after 30 years

Richard Fortune (pictured) confirmed that he stepped down as president of the Futsal Association of Cape Town (FACT) to “hand over the baton to the younger generation.”

Fortune, who has been serving in this position since the inception in 2002, is replaced by Allie Logday, a former goalkeeper, instructor, referee and administrator who comes with a wealth of knowledge. Logday will serve as the interim chairperson of the Futsal Association of Cape Town (FACT) along with the General Secretary, Donovan Petersen.

However, Fortune will not completely cut ties with futsal and will still be around in the background as the sport is close to his heart.

“I will still serve as an executive member of SAIFA which is the mother body of Futsal in South Africa and an associate member of SAFA National, ” Fortune revealed to No Bones with Jones.  “I will be honoured as life president of Futsal and will oversee Futsal in Cape Town and the Western Cape.,” the 62-year-old added.

According to Fortune the time has come to allow the next generation of leaders and administrators to take over the reins.

“I thought of it the other day when I said people are always so power hungry and they want to stay in charge and don’t want to relinquish the reins and hand over, you know. They will die in the position and football will carry on.

“That’s why I decided to step down and hand over the baton to the younger generation, who are full of vigour and committed to take the organization to the next level,” Fortune concluded.
