It does not always have to be pretty or textbook stuff, as it is all about the three points at the end of the day.
And that is exactly what FN Rangers mustered, a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to a brilliant curling effort from outside the box from Luke Camelo, which condemned Hout Bay United FC to a second consecutive loss in an ABC Motsepe League match at the Royal Road Sport Field on Saturday.
And even though it is still early in the season, the alarm bells should be ringing for Hout Bay’s highly qualified and esteemed coach Michael Loftman, who will have deduced by now that qualifications in this League count for nothing.
This should be worrying signs for Loftman, given their big budgets and resources at his disposal. His disrespect to the media also leaves a lot to be desired.
The first half was a cagey affair with neither side able to create clear-cut chances or to stamp their authority on the game.
A gusty wind played a role in the second half, which made matters more challenging, forcing the visitors to ditch their game plan and resort to the route one and long ball – but even this was to no avail as Keenen Dixon was rock solid and marshalled the Rangers defence with great aplomb – he dealt with whatever was thrown at them
It was always going to take something special to break the deadlock, and Camelo delivered the goods when it mattered with a fantastic effort which sealed all three points for the home side.
Rangers head coach Arreshaat Daniels made no bones about the fact that he is relieved to bag the full complement of points.
And a dreary-faced Loftman left the Royal Road complex in a foul mood (with language that cannot be repeated here) and his tail between his legs.
