Masita’s backing should be taken to next level by Safa CT to grow football

With a multi-million-rand sponsorship deal for amateur football to be finalized, all eyes will be on Safa Cape Town to see how they will channel this sponsorship to help grow the game.

With a grant of R800 000/year over four years, the region will now have a bit of financial freedom to invest more aggressively elsewhere – especially in the women’s game.

It is high time that ladies’ football gets marketed and advertised more prominently with its own tournament or competition  – not just an extension of their male counterparts.

Hence, the historical launch of the partnership between Masita and Safa CT which will celebrate their official matrimony at the Garden Court, Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Walmer Estate on Saturday, has everyone in amateur circles buzzing again.

Needless to say, it could not have come at a better time as well. As many organisations are still recovering post Covid-19, Safa CT will be in a pound (financial) position to build on from here.

The Dutch-based sports company signed a MOA on the 8th of April 2024 which stipulates that SAFA receives a large part of the sponsored items of their choice.

The company’s Managing Director Vivek Kohli is keen to extend his footprint in Africa after partnering with the Rwanda and Guinea national football teams.

Kohli explained to No Bones with Jones: “We would like to grow together with Safa Cape Town and bring glory to our company and to South Africa and to the African Continent. Through this we will grow together.

“The partnership in Rwanda and Guinea has proven quite successful as sponsors of their national teams. “So, apart from establishing a footprint in South Africa we will also look at deepening the footprint on the continent,” he added.

It must also be noted that this venture could not have transpired without the assistance of Joe Carrim, president of Tabletennis South Africa.

“Safa Cape Town was identified as a key partner having noted the structured football competitions and number of functioning LFA’s as the perfect launching pad for MASITA in RSA,” Carrim stated to No Bones with Jones.
