It is high time that the noise coming from ABC Motsepe League owners, chairmen and coaches reaches the intended recipient – the South African Football Association (Safa).
This is largely because the level of dissatisfaction and unhappiness that exists amongst the second division participants is unbelievable. However, the majority of those involved choose a rather cowardly option – moaning in the background.
From where I stand it is also self-inflicted as there is clearly no appetite or desire from clubs to unite and sing from the same hymn sheet so that there can be better communication and input from clubs.
I’ve said it before and I will stress it again, the lack of unity coupled with jealousy and all round disrespect amongst rivals has made it impossible for these role players to put their differences aside to collectively challenge the powers that be. And herein lies the problem.
Be that as it may, the fact of the matter is that from the outside the ‘new-look’ second division streams do look suspect and controversial.
The fact that a ‘criteria” was also set for a second playoff in the Overberg prior to the province’s engagement with the Motsepe league clubs last week in Worcester, raises suspicion.
With the season due to start on 27 September it will be interesting to see and hear if the noise and cursing will die down.
History has shown that these clubs have a reputation of being all bark and no bite – and the authorities are too well aware of this and use it to exploit the situation.
