Proud August says Santos will have to “pitch at races” against “fantastic Swifts” to get back to winning ways

Eight matches in 28 days which resulted in four wins, three draws and one defeat would under normal circumstances be average and nothing to write home about.

But in the case of Santos FC, it’s different. In fact, it is not too shabby at all – especially given the trials and tribulations Santos had to endure off the field after they were expelled by Safa Western Cape. With the help of an Arbitrator normality was restored and Goolam Allie’s (owner) club was back in the league.

This meant coach Bradley August’s (pictured) side lost out on a couple of weeks’ action hence they had to play catch up.

“But it was tough and now it’s starting to take a toll on my players, and I had to give them some time off just to freshen up again, you know,” August conceded to No Bones with Jones. “I was then so happy this week as we didn’t play a midweek game this and next week so we could prepare and train as normal, you know. So, I think that is important for us,” August added.

The former Bafana Bafana striker, August says he is very impressed with the squad and the way they have applied themselves under very difficult and controversial circumstances and did not hesitate to shower them with praise.

“So far, they have done everything a coach can ask from his players and I’m very happy and proud I must be honest,” Auguster further explained. “The young players coming in have been magnificent.

“Their fighting spirit and character they have shown, I can’t complain. A pity about our (first) loss against Ubuntu last week. A point would have been nice, you know. But yeah, that’s why we need to rectify things tonight but we face a tough opponent.”

Santos will have another stern test when they square up against Sea Point Swifts (Hope FC) for the first ever meeting between these clubs and would want to close the gap on the pacesetters, and they are within striking distance, five points from Swifts.

August knows all too well this will be easier said than done and which means they will have to pitch up at the races.

“Fantastic coach, fantastic players… what more can you say about Hope FC,” August pointed out. “They are doing extremely well in their first year in the league and we will have to be on top of our game and be at the races 100 percent tonight,” August concluded.
