A co-coach approach, especially in football, has very rarely yielded big success – on any stage for that matter.
There are many examples of clubs to learn from – big and small that have attempted this method, only for it to backfire.
The Third Division club Silver Spurs went this route when they appointed Mario Tito and Franklyn Davies last season – and guess what, yes, it blew up in their face after they had been warned but simply did not listen. resulting in a poor campaign last season.
The ABC Motsepe League side Santos has now also opted to go with two coaches in Siza Gola (pictured left) and Jay Visagie (pictured right).
Gola and Visagie replace Roger Fortuin who left the club after four seasons and it will be interesting to see if this duo will be able to challenge for honours as Fortune could unfortunately not go on to achieve success.
When the Santos chairman Goolam Allie was probed on what prompted the decision the big boss declined his right of reply.
What is really the rationale behind a decision like that if you have already implemented it at your club and it did bear fruit – like in 2002 with Boebie Solomons and Farouk Khan at the helm – so why now?
Is Allie too scared to be decisive and does not want to cause bad blood? Is he doing this just to keep the peace?
