Springboks to reward young footballers for their “resilience”

The Springboks aren’t world champions just because they are a talented and skilful bunch on the field!

Oh no! The beloved Bokke have now shown their class by extending an invitation to the group of Cape Town footballers who were left stranded in Spain recently to watch their second Rugby Championship match against Australia (17:10) in the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

This gesture by the current four-time world champions is to reward these footballers for their “resilience” during their traumatic experience abroad.

Marlon Kruger, Senior  Marketing & Communications Manager of the South African Rugby Union (Saru) explained: “That is correct, these young footballers will be our guests for the test match against Australia and we’ll be celebrating them,” Kruger stated to No Bones with Jones.

“We want to treat them to an experience of a lifetime. We’ll have interviews with the coach and some of the players which will be shown on the big screen, but I don’t want to divulge too much, but they are in for a treat,” Kruger added.

This news was welcomed with open arms by the parents whose only task is to ensure their respective children get to the stadium on time for an experience of a lifetime.

One of the coaches accompanying the footballers, Jesse Julis, added that this is a fantastic opportunity for the players.

“Firstly, thank you to SA Rugby for going beyond its mandate to bring joy and hope to the future generation,” Julius pointed out. “This will be a memory to cherish for a life-time,” Julius concluded.
