Stober will use match versus Maties to fine-tune for Second Division season

Seaside Spurs head coach Gerald Stober revealed that he will use the Nedbank Cup competition to further fine-tune and assess his new ABC Motsepe League outfit.

The coastal side hosts the defending regional Nedbank champ Maties FC at their homeground for a preliminary round of this David vs Goliath cup competition.

Seaside raised a few eyebrows when they acquired Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town’s second division status recently. This deal included the swap of the Seaside’s Hollywoodbets Third Division status in exchange for Antalyaspor’s second division status plus cash.

Stober, who made his ‘debut’ in the third division last season along with the club itself, steered Seaside to a respectable and credible sixth spot ruffling a few feathers in the process.

The former Bafana Bafana striker will now again – along with the club – make their debut in the second division and Stober stated that they are definitely looking forward to it.

“We are only four weeks into our preseason so will be using this game as a conditioning session,” Stober told No Bones with Jones. “We are without five players from last season that normally start.

“And that is beside the three who left the club. But we have a squad that can do a good job. We will probably have five or six players that will be given their debut against Maties. It will be a good test for them and I am excited all round,” Stober added.

Stober further strengthened his squad with former Stellenbosch shot stopper Reid Bombay who’s experience as the last line of defence will definitely add value and come in handy.  So, too has the former Grassy Park United player Ryan Serfontein been lured to Ocean View for the new season.
