Swifts have vision to uplift, empower and educate, not to splash cash – ‘Hare’ on standby

Sea Point Swifts might have landed passionate suiters to invest in the club, and these business moguls might not know very much about the local football landscape – but this definitely does not mean they are blinded and have the necessary cash to splash willy-nilly!

It is crystal clear that Swifts’ new hierarchy of the ABC Motsepe League side will not pay exorbitant salaries on ex pro players to strengthen their squad as the objective is not about winning league titles and promotion.

This project – under the guidance of chairman and former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan – runs deeper as they are not just aiming to restore the credibility of the club, but also to uplift, empower and educate the future generations whether on or off the field – and that means starting from scratch.

This clarity is needed as many in the football circles are drawing their own conclusions and assumptions. Especially after the former Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates attacker Craig Martin’s has been spotted training with Swifts under the tutelage of Dylan Deane and Clayton “Hare” Daniels.

However, No Bones with Jones can confirm that Martin is only training with the club to keep fit with the hope of getting a PSL contract soon. In fact, Swifts are still hard at work at the Italian Club in Milnerton. So, those players left thinking it could be a big day to join Swifts, must think again.

In fact No Bones with Jones has established that Swifts’ assistant coach Daniels, will have to be on his toes as he might even be asked to saddle up in order to fill the gaps until the team is sorted.

It’s fair to say that Daniels still has a lot to offer on the field with his wealth of experience and leadership qualities. So, don’t be surprised if the former Bafana Bafana defender dons the maroon and sky-blue of Swifts.

The reality is that Swifts has too much of a rich history for it to go to waste. The club has produced the finest players that went on to play pro football and it’s important to keep this legacy going.

Of course, a very small percentage of the upcoming generation will kick on in their football careers, but the majority will have to face the tough realities of life – and this is exactly the alternatives that this project will provide. To help create exemplary citizens in Bonteheuwel that can empower themselves and ultimately contribute to society at large.

One positive aspect is their appetite and willingness to keep the Second Division newbie in the Bonteheuwel area which bodes well for the young talent and football lovers.

When speaking to some of the investors of Sea Point Swifts it becomes more and more apparent that they really have the best interest of the club as well as the broader Bonteheuwel community at heart despite the fact that many of them have no connection to the club or area itself.

But does it matter when someone is trying to make a difference? One cannot help but admire the new sense of optimism and hope as it is that tangible – and what Swifts, the Met and the broader Bontas were craving for albeit that the Second Division outfit could undergo a name change.
