Tauric relishing battle with Rushan for Golden Boot

The Hollywoodbets Third Division season has yet to reach the halfway stage, but it is already a two-horse race between the leading marksman, Rushan Abrahams from Silver Spurs and Matroosfontein’s Tauric Gamildien, for the Golden Boot.

Gamildien (12 goals) has lost some ground after Abrahams grabbed a double during their 2-0 win over Matroosfontein last week to take his tally to 17 goals.

But just to put things into perspective, Abrahams is Gamildien’s senior by 11 years and has way more experience than his younger counterpart.

That said, Gamildien, the younger brother of Ruzaigh Gamildien, has shown that he is not easily intimidated banging back-to-back hat tricks in the Nedbank Cup and as well as the league campaign.

Yes, he has also proven to be Matroos’ match-winner on a couple of occasions with vital goals and assists making him a real asset in attack. Gamildien said to No Bones with Jones that Abrahams is bringing out the best in him.

‘I applaud him for doing what he’s doing and I think he’s having a great season,” Gamildien said to our website. “I wasn’t expected to go head-to-head with him in terms of goals at all, so I feel like I’ve been better than last season, but I still think I have a lot to improve on. I like this rivalry as it makes me work harder and keeps me focussed.”

There are expectations from the Northern LFA representative to be among the title contenders come end of the season. Needless to say, Matroos boasts a talented bunch of young (Unders) with the future looking promising.

But inconsistency has caused Matroos to drop down outside the top-four to the seventh position after 16 games. They welcome the much-improved Saxon Rovers under coach Zahir Arendse to Elsbury Park on Saturday for a Third Division clash.

Tauric says that his objective is first to ensure that his team gains maximum points before any personal objectives.

“To be 100 percent honest I think this league is still wide open for any of the top five to seven teams to win,” the young striker further added.

“I think that Vasco is doing very great at the moment but for me, whoever wins the second round that will start from next week will win the league,” Tauric added. Tauric, who has been linked to a move to the Cape Winelands with Stellenbosch FC, revealed that having an older brother who has carved out a pro career in SA football, is certainly beneficial to him.

“It’s great to have a brother who has played at the highest level of SA football for many years and I am thankful that he helps me when I’m stuck or not sure of what to do next but yeah, I would say people expect a lot from me because of his success.

“I don’t put unnecessary pressure on me but I am currently just working hard to create my football journey that maybe surpasses his… but the main purpose is to enjoy what I’m doing and I am having fun as well,” Tauric concluded.
