UCT gains promotion – dedicate achievement to coach Parker

It’s mission accomplished and the Western Cape has once again got a second pro side in the HollyBets Super League following their dominant 4-0 win over Kovsies to reach the final of the Sasol League’s National Playoffs at the Loerie Park Sports Ground in Knysna.

Janica Andrews’ general-like performance in the engine room was again key and so too was that of Shannon Mills in defence. In essence it was a collective professional performance from the Western Cape champion.

UCT now face Ezemvelo, who they drew 1-1 in their opening match, in the final on Sunday at 11:30 after the latter beat Ramatlaohle Ladies in the other semi.

UCT Ladies will now join rivals from the University of the Western Cape in the highest tier of women’s football in the country which is a great achievement and well deserved to say the least.

Especially given the adversity they faced since and even before their arrival in Knysna with their coaching staff of Ahmed Parker (head coach), Shaquille Williams (assistant) and Mark Kapman (goalkeeper coach) being involved in an accident en route to the Eden region.

Williams dedicated this victory to coach Parker.

“This is another opportunity for Cape Town to get the exposure they deserved,” Williams said after the match to SABC TV. “We need to expand to what we have in Cape Town and this is another opportunity for them,” Williams added.

One can only imagine that everyone will now jump onto the bandwagon as its another pedestal for the ‘blompotte’.

Be that as it may, Kamaal Sait, who with his second attempt won promotion, also deserves high praise for his calm influence when it was most needed. But one would expect nothing less from an old pro like the former Orlando Pirates defender.

Sait would probably not publicly admit it, but he’d like to go full out by winning it as it will just crown off their already fantastic season.

There’s also still the possibility of success in the Coke Cup as well so, plenty to play for still – and one wouldn’t wanna bet against Sait and his troops achieving more success.
