Two losses in so many games is certainly not what Greenwood Athletic’s coach, Lionel Miller, had in mind leading up to the Festive break of Safa Cape Town’s Third Division campaign.
This comes after the Green Machine succumbed to a 1-2 defeat against Cape Town City at Malta Park on Sunday afternoon – not to mention their 2-3 defeat at home to Rygersdal FC in a midweek fixture on Tuesday.
An off-the-field freakish incident occurred during the second half against City when a tree on the outside of the astroturf snapped, with a part of the branch landing on the side fence of the playing field – luckily no one was injured – except Greenwood’s ego and morale of course as they could not find the equalizer.
However, Miller is a seasoned campaigner and experienced enough to know it’s not all doom and gloom as it’s still early days.
“Yes, not ideal but rather now then later in the season,” Miller pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “Sometimes we are our worst enemy as we had chances, you know. It’s not like we were outplayed or performed badly, we just didn’t take our chances,” he added.
Greenwood, tipped as one of the title contenders, started the season like a house on fire with three wins from their three matches setting the pace at the top of the summit. They have rather surprisingly taken a dip which sees them drop down to seventh on the log.
It’s no secret that Miller would want nothing more than to rectify matters when they welcome Roger Fortune’s Young Pirates in their last game before the break at the Solo Street Astroturf on Friday.
“Pirates will be another tough encounter,” Miller added. “The league is so unpredictable and there are no easy games, you know. That said, we need to make the most of our home advantage and get back to winning ways, especially for our fans,” he concluded.
