It’s understandable that when the chips are down, some might duck and dive and avoid conversations with the media at all costs.
But then again, no one wants to kick a man when he’s down, but the reality is, when you want to play with the big boys, then you have to roll with the punches and take whatever comes your way – it’s a sad reality, but it is what it is!
And unfortunately for Silver Spurs, their 20-odd-year reign in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division, could come to an end this season after yet another crushing 1-5 defeat at the hands of coach Byron Cottle’s Cape Town City at Malta Park on Sunday afternoon
This is the Spurs’ 10th defeat from 19 matches and alarm bells are going crazy that serious intervention is needed -if not a miracle.
Mario Tito, a former coach at the Silvertown-based club, seems to be brave and stupid – dare I say – enough to have taken on such an enormous task once again in a bid to get Spurs out of the relegation zone. Although he has done it before, this time it seems like a really daunting task.
Luckily, we all know Tito’s character and DNA and he was definitely not inebriated when he signed up for this, but purely for the love of the badge – even it means his credibility as a coach must take a knock – and that is very admirable and noble as his love for Spurs knows no boundaries, hence he is now in the hot seat. He’ll be assisted by Kashief Lewis.
With 15 games left, Tito will at least have to win 50 percent of the matches and also hope that other results go in their favour – I think no one has to remind Tito that this is a bad time to be calling the shots at Spurs.
Sunday 8 March:
Cape Town City 5, Silver Spurs 1
