YMO’s goal poacher “Roo” not looking over his shoulder – but maybe he should as others are catching up in race for Safa CT’s Golden Boot

And Safa Cape Town’s Third Division Golden Boot award for 2025/26 goes to…

Well, only time will reveal as the season heads towards the business end and it appears that everything is not as cut and dry for the leading marksman, Rushan Abrahams (pictured) from the relegation threatened outfit, YMO FC.

This comes after the region confirmed the official top three scorers with just over a quarter of the season remaining. They are Abrahams 20 (goals), followed by Matroosfontein FC’s Randall du Toit (16), as well as Bakhe Sopaqa (Cape Town Spurs) and Dylon Alberts (Ashford Athletic), who both are sitting on 15 goals.

Abrahams, affectionately known as ‘Roo’, has since he announced his arrival in the ‘Graveyard league’ from Oriental Gunners FC, taken over this mantle. In his first season, he comfortably broke Darron Omaticus’ record of 35 goals for Jamestown that was set during the 2023/’24 season.

According to Abrahams, he broke the 40-goal mark by two goals in his debut season in the league.

“Yeah, but they only registered 38 goals, which is still a new record in the league, but according to my knowledge, it was 42 goals,” Abrahams pointed out to No Bones with Jones.

Abrahams started this season like a house on fire and racked up double figures in no time and that included two hat tricks early on – running away with the Golden Boot at one stage. However, a massive dip in form from his club saw Abrahams stuck on 18 goals for quite some time.

Despite Abrahams’ rivals closing the gap, he says there is no reason for him to look over his shoulder.

“I don’t even look over my shoulder for a gangster, you know,” Abrahams further explained. “I’ll just put four or five in my next two games or so, then they hit rock bottom again.

“Besides, it’s lonely to always be on top (of the scoring charts) without a challenge, but the current making of my team is as if I’m withholding goals for them to catch up,” he jokingly added.

The 31-year-old sharpshooter emphasized that although he enjoys banging in the goals, the interest of his team comes before any personal accolades.

“It’s not always about being the top gun for me,” he stated. “As you know, my team sometimes concedes three times as much as I score, then I have to go and score again. Honestly, at times it doesn’t feel like I’m a top scorer when your side is facing relegation and not to mention not winning the league.

“When you are a top scorer at your club, then your club should at least be a dominating force. Put me in any of the top three teams in the league and we could’ve won the league in the first round, you know what I mean,” Abrahams concluded.
