Not too long ago FC Tafelzucht was the talk of the town as the club was making waves – but for all the wrong reasons at their Mitchells Plain LFA.
However, the Tafelsig-based outfit was not going to allow controversy to derail it from its vision and objectives.
Fast forward a couple of months and they went from zero to hero at their LFA and did what no other club in the history of football in Mitchells Plain could muster – a (Champions) League and Cup double…
And the scary part is that the club from Mitchells Plain is not done yet as “The Zucht Machine” has not only secured its spot in the Hollywoodbets Third Division playoffs, but is also on track for success in the Coke Cup where it faces the mighty Young Pirates of Heideveld in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Coach Oswald Sauls knows all too well that they are entering uncharted territory but pointed out that they will use the unknown to their advantage.
Sauls stated that he gladly accepts the under-dog-tag for the clash against coach Roger Fortune’s former champion side.
Tafelzucht, who mostly consist of LFA players, has already shown that they are not to be intimidated after they stunned a former champion and one of the favourites in Hanover Park FC.
”If I have to be honest the competition started pretty rocky for us and we scraped through on penalties on two or three occasions – so it wasn’t easy,” Sauls told No Bones with Jones. ”But as we progressed the boys started to become more confident and got that belief, you know. The game against Hanover Park showed me that we can compete against the very best. The fight and determination was pleasing to see and that is all a coach can ask for.
”Now anything is possible for us to go all the way to the final. So, bring on Pirates, we are ready for them because we have Zucht power. My players are underrated and do not get recognition but I want to tell them that we as a club and community are proud of you and that is all that matters,” Sauls concluded.
