Hanover Park chairman Rieduwaan Anthony calls for consistency after they have been found guilty and slapped with an R20 000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute.
The punishment relates to the attack on FN Rangers’ captain Chad Robertson by one of the Hanover Park FC’s members during their 1-2 loss in an ABC Motsepe League fixture at Downberg Road Sports Complex in November last year.
Anthony confirmed to No Bones with Jones that they have been found guilty on both charges – one of assault on a player and a second on lack of security.
“We are found guilty on both charges, R10 000 for the one (charge) and another R10 000 for the other charge payable over two months (January 2024 and February),” Anthony told our website. “The first charge I admitted guilt as it did happen and I did not want to waste people’s time and all of that hence I asked for leniency.
“On the second one, they reckon we had a lack of security. Although we had security in place, they wanted more security. So, I said that it was a less than two minute incident that took place on the field and our guys (security) who did duty were there. I mean Rangers were still the last to leave the venue but obviously, we were found guilty of that as well.
“So, I am saying if we travel away to venues there are no securities at the venues and it is open fields you know. Now, we are being judged and I know somehow that we are being judged because of the people from the Hanover Park area.
“So, it’s a bit of a doomy situation, you know as it is the first time in our history that something like that happened and we got to learn quickly because R20 000 is a lot of money and it is a knock for us, but alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah) we just need to keep on moving.
“I said to them that it is so important for football to be played in Hanover Park and for people to come out and enjoy the beautiful game and especially the young boys. On the one hand, it is good if the organisation comes down hard on the clubs, but then they must do it with everyone and maintain that consistency,” Anthony concluded.
